The in vitro activity (minimal inhibitory concentration and minimal lethal concentration) of 13 beta-lactam antibiotics against two laboratory strains of Chlamydia trachomatis was compared. No useful activity could be detected.

Both compounds showed activities comparable to that of ceftazidime and were bactericidal. They were as effective against gentamicin-or carbenicillin-resistant isolates as against susceptible ones.

The in vitro activity of A-56268 (TE-031), a new macrolide antibiotic, against 11 strains of Chlamydia trachomatis was determined and compared with that of four other antibiotics. A-56268 was the most active drug tested. Doxycycline, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, and erythromycin had good activity but were less active in vitro than A-56268.
